Good News! A New District as Been Built!

More and more Russian cities are getting comfortable pedestrianized streets, bicycle paths, parks and recreation zones. It seems we are moving in the right direction and life’s getting better. Until we see something like this…

Until we see a new dwelling district like the one recently built in Samara, Russia.
The pictures are real, and what you see are barracks for 50 000 people. The district has nothing else – no schools, kidergartens, no public space, no trees and benches. Only these dull countless barracks.

What do they resemble? Maybe the concentration camp “Auschwitz II” (“Birkenau”)? But probably the architecture of the camp looks way more interesting…

Who’s gonna live and grow here?

The scenery is the same for kilometers in any direction…

China builts similar districts, by the way. But they’re actually for those who agree to work for a plate of rice all day long…

Well, it’s OK. In the end they have built millions of housing square meters! The job’s done.
